4 Catholic Radio Shows We Recommend for Fathers

Fathers today are up against struggles never seen in previous generations. Men and fatherhood are mocked on TV and in the media, often portrayed as weak in an anything-goes family. There is a lack of respect for the vocation of marriage and the culture is against strong men of faith leading their families.

While you can surely benefit from many Catholic radio programs, there are some you may not have considered. Here are four Catholic radio shows that Catholic Radio Network recommends for fathers:

  1. The Shepherd’s Voice

The metaphor of God’s children as sheep is present throughout the Old and New Testament. Not only is Jesus the Good Shepherd, but he left behind men in the Catholic Church to guard, protect, and care for His sheep until He comes again. These are our Bishops.

The Shepherd’s Voice is a podcast by Archbishop Joseph Naumann. He teaches the Catholic faith by interviewing Catholics who live it and covers a wide variety of topics including family, foster care, refugees, abortion, Sacred Tradition, the Liturgy, the Eucharist, and more.

At catholicradionetwork.com under PODCASTS, you can scroll down to view recent episodes, use the Episodes dropdown menu to sort categories or archives, or type a keyword in the search box. You can’t go wrong putting yourself under the spiritual guidance of this shepherd.

  1. The Fathers Know Best

While Catholic bishops shepherd a diocese or archdiocese, priests shepherd particular parishes and/or religious communities. The Fathers Know Best program features lively teachings, lectures, and exclusive EWTN programs hosted by three priests who you may know and will come to love.

  • Larry Richards is on Mondays and Fridays.
  • John Riccardo is on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Benedict Groeschel is on Wednesdays.

Listen to them discuss everyday life challenges through their own unique lenses of their experiences and ministries. You will not only come to know the love and mercy of Jesus more personally, you’ll also learn more about the Catholic Church and her saints.

  1. Called to Communion

Called to Communion with Dr. David Anders is a radio program with a tagline, “What is stopping you from becoming Catholic?” However we heartily recommend it specifically for Catholic fathers (and mothers), not just atheists, former Catholics, and non-Catholics.

Unfortunately catechesis (Catholic religious instruction) was, for a time, not what generations prior received. Several church documents state that parents are the primary educators of their children in the Catholic Faith. But many today do not know or understand the Catholic faith themselves, let alone feel equipped to pass it on to their children.

You can listen on one of our five unique livestreams, or find the program on ewtn.com with a synopsis of topics covered in each episode. There are also options to watch or listen on demand. Dr. David Anders (a convert to Catholicism, himself) in his characteristic kind tone coupled with understanding the many aspects of the Catholic Church, will aid you in your role as a primary educator of your children.

  1. The Catholic Current with Fr. Robert McTeigue, S.J.

No list of great Catholic radio shows for fathers would be complete without The Catholic Current. Fr. Robert McTeigue, S.J., is the host and producer of the show and a professor of philosophy and theology. Known for his classes in rhetoric and medical ethics, he also has experience in religious formation, retreat ministry, and spiritual direction.

As a writer with a weekly column and several published books, Fr. McTeigue’s vast experiences enable him to engage in thoughtful and interesting conversations with expert guests that shed light on topics both inside and outside of the Church. These conversations are aired Monday through Thursday and are relevant to what is happening in today’s world.

Fridays are special as Fr. McTeigue presents his next topic for “Let’s Talk About This” where he walks through a complex issue for the first three segments of the show, then finishes with “Weekend Readiness” to prepare listeners for the upcoming Sunday Mass.

St. Joseph and the Archangel Gabriel Can Guide You to Solid Catholic Radio Programs

St. Joseph lead, protected, and provided for his family materially and spiritually, just like fathers are called to do today. Look to him as a role model and ask for his intercession. He will guide you to radio programs that will fortify you in your calling of fatherhood.

As the patron saint of radio broadcasters, telecommunications, and all types of messengers, ask St. Gabriel to intercede for you as well. As a messenger of God, he will guide you to radio programs that will communicate God’s will for your life as you seek to fulfill your mission from God as well.

Catholic Radio Shows Equip and Strengthen Fathers

Fatherhood is a great gift flowing from the vocation of matrimony. Catholic men need brothers in the Faith as well as spiritual fathers. We highly recommend these four radio shows because they will teach you, equip you to teach your children, and inform you of what’s happening in society and the church and provide a solid Catholic response.

Through the intercession of St. Joseph and the Archangel Gabriel, may you receive the teachings of Jesus and the Catholic Church, and find wisdom and strength from our Catholic radio programming at catholicradionetwork.com.
