Evangelize with Impact: 4 Powerful Ways Catholic Radio Helps

Written by on August 2, 2025

Do you realize that you have a unique call to evangelize and participate in the Great Commission?

The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:16-20 RSVCE)

This gospel passage shows the remaining disciples after the Resurrection (without Judas Iscariot and before Matthias took his place). The mountain is a place where Peter, James and John witnessed the Transfiguration. It is also a reminder of Moses’ encounter on Mount Horeb (Sinai) when he received the Ten Commandments.

God the Father gave us His Law in ten guidelines to keep us spiritually safe. The Father gave us His Son to demonstrate and be Love for every soul. The Holy Spirit was then sent to permeate the lives of the disciples and remain as a special Presence among all believers.

Evangelization Leads to Conversion and Discipleship in the Catholic Church

Making disciples of all nations was aimed primarily at Gentiles (those who were not Jewish). However, because many Jews rejected Jesus, they would have been included in the command, as well.

Baptism in Jesus’ time and in this present day is the means by which a person enters the community of the followers of Jesus and His Church.

All this comes about through evangelization. But this is not just for missionaries and those with religious vocations. St. Pope John Paul II wrote about this in his encyclical, Redemptoris Missio On the permanent validity of the Church’s missionary mandate. He called for a “new evangelization”.

“The New Evangelization,” says the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), “calls each of us to deepen our faith, believe in the Gospel message and go forth to proclaim the Gospel.” You can find more information on the USCCB New Evangelization webpage.

When someone has an experience of conversion, hungering for God with a willingness to learn more, that is when discipleship begins.
