About the Exhibit
This free exhibit, The Man of the Shroud, offers an in-depth exploration of the Shroud of Turin—one of the most studied and debated relics in human history. Developed in collaboration with the Turin Shroud Center of Colorado and presented by Catholic Radio Network, the exhibit brings together historical documentation, scientific research, medical analysis, and archaeological evidence related to the Shroud.
The content of the exhibit has been compiled with the assistance of certified Shroud presenters and draws from decades of peer-reviewed studies, including findings from the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP). Through carefully curated panels, visitors are invited to examine the evidence surrounding the Shroud and consider the enduring question it poses: Who is the Man of the Shroud?
The Display
The exhibit features 41 beautifully designed, full-color panels, each measuring approximately 2.5 feet by 6 feet, arranged in a clear sequential order. Together, the panels guide visitors through the history of the Shroud of Turin—from the burial of Jesus, through its documented travels across centuries, to modern scientific investigations.
Topics explored include historical timelines, ancient artistic evidence, forensic medical analysis of wounds visible on the Shroud image, textile and botanical findings, and cutting-edge scientific discoveries such as three-dimensional imaging and carbon dating. The exhibit is designed to be self-guided, allowing visitors to move thoughtfully through the display at their own pace while engaging both the mind and the heart.
What is the Shroud of Turin?
The Shroud of Turin is a fourteen-foot-long linen cloth bearing the faint image of a crucified man. Many believe it to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ, as described in the Gospels. The image on the Shroud is not painted, dyed, or printed, and its formation remains scientifically unexplained despite extensive study.
The cloth shows detailed front-and-back images of a man who suffered injuries consistent with Roman crucifixion, including scourge marks, wounds to the head, wrists, feet, and side, and post-mortem blood flow. Over the past century, the Shroud has been examined by historians, physicians, chemists, physicists, and textile experts. While belief in the Shroud’s authenticity is not required by the Catholic Church, the Church permits its veneration and encourages continued study as a means of deepening reflection on Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
